“ROUTE IBIZA” is defined as first Mission of the Global Offshore Sailing Team. In 1999 Guido Zoeller and Jochen Werne never imagined where this campaign will go to. Naturally they had firstly in mind to have a great and fun holiday but it became soon clear that this could be more. The ideas and values where unspoken clear: Forming a team of men searching for a real challenge in their life. The Battlefield is the High Sea far away from coastal borders. The outcome would be: Being proud of the aims reached, respect, friendship and great fun.
By coincidence the GOST-birth steps are linked to the honourable and old NAVAL history. In autumn 1998 – when Guido Zoeller and Jochen Werne were working together at Bankers Trust and Deutsche Bank was taking over this US-Investment bank – Jochen Werne was on a Naval Reserve duty as instructor for navigation on board of Germany’s Navy three mast sail training ship “Gorch Fock”. At that time this most famous German ship was on the route from Turkey to Germany and made a stop in the Spanish port of Alicante. During this stopover Jochen met Naval Engineer Manchi who invited parts of the crew for a one day trip on board his beautiful sailing yacht and later on made the contact for to Juan Manero. After returning to Germany Guido Zoeller and Jochen Werne decided to do the first GOST-Mission starting at Alicante on board of Juan Manero’s 32ft. sloop.
